Marathon Book

I am just putting the finishing touches to my project. I have created a fold out book, combining my love for sport with the 'comfortable' aspect of the Nike trainer.

I have always wanted to run the marathon so I looked into how Nike give people this sense of motivation and spirit to help them achieve the things that might otherwise seem impossible. Although the runner may be able to run a marathon in any shoe, Nike have the ability to make things seem possible for anyone. I also wanted to look at the idea of how they do this, obviously through advertising and other means, but also by the way they make the trainers. The textures they use are very important, so I decided to look at these and how the feel and touch can provoke thoughts about sport as well as provide a great experience when run in.

I thought it would be a great idea to combine this feel and texture of the Nike shoe with a dream of mine, this could then inspire other people to pursue their sporting dreams and aspirations. I wanted to create something fun but at the same time relate it to what Nike is to me and the things I want to achieve.

My project is coming together nicely. I have been working hard to get everything
looking how I want it to. Here is a really small image of what I am working on.

My Idea

I want to explore the trainer and its 'function' by turning it into
something different. I am currently working with the idea of creating
a book, made out of all the components of the shoe. For example
the cover will be made up of all the textures, and the spine will be
stitched using the laces and thread that I have recovered from the
trainer. I have plenty of materials that could be used, so hopefully
the whole book will be made out of these materials.

Quotes

When you're riding, only the race in which you're riding is important.
-Bill Shoemaker

Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision.
-Muhammad Ali

When I step onto the court, I don't have to think about anything. If I have a problem off the court, I find that after I play, my mind is clearer and I can come up with a better solution. It's like therapy. It relaxes me and allows me to solve problems.
-Michael Jordan

My thoughts before a big race are usually pretty simple. I tell myself: Get out of the blocks, run your race, stay relaxed. If you run your race, you'll win... channel your energy. Focus.

I'll let the racket do the talking.
